Artist Bios:

7.30pm – Talaya Schmid x  Belia Winnewisser
The performance “Collective Sigh Song” invites us into a space of relaxation and shared experience through sighing as an artistic communal experience that connects everyone regardless of language, gender or origin.

Sighing is universal, yet ambiguous - a wordless dialog between individuals and cultures. Essential for survival, sighing opens the body and mind on many layers, ventilates the lungs and creates togetherness. The audience is invited to become part of the performance,  experience the power of collective breathing, to let go of certainties and create polyphony.

Talaya Schmid (*1983) is a playful feminist artist, activist and art lecturer. She uses tufting, originally a technique for rug-making, to create colorful soft sculptures, sculptural fashion and fluffy murals. She is a performance artist using her voice, sounds and storytelling to create immersive and welcoming spaces. Talaya Schmid is co-founder and curator of Porny Days, an annual film and art festival on sexualities and gender held in Zurich since 2012. In 2013 she finished her Master of Fine Arts at Goldsmith University of London. From 2013 to 2017, she was the publishing director of the comic magazine Strapazin, where she is still an editor and president of the association.  In 2014, Talaya Schmid cooked at the canteen at the F+F School of Art and Design, where she subsequently worked as an assistant and tutor in the Fine Arts program from 2015 to 2019.

The music of Zurich-based artist Belia Winnewisser is an enthralling full-body experience. Her sound oscillates between soft noisescapes and brutal salvos, equal parts pop, sound art, and club music, appealing as much to the heart as the head and the gut. 

Belia Winnewisser has been active as a singer, composer, and keyboard player for various band projects, like the dissolved goth unit Evje, indie super group Silver Firs, or pop duo α=f/ m. In the last few years, Winnewisser has been prioritizing her own music production, solo concerts, and DJ gigs. She also composes music for audio books, stage theatre, and leads workshops in songwriting and producing. Winnewisser started working with sound synthesis and live electronics during her Bachelor degree in Sound Arts. She received her Master of Contemporary Arts Practice from the Bern University of the Arts in 2018.

“Why does the little pig hide in the forest and never comes out again?”

Violence, fear and the search for protection are thematized in a mixture of performance, music and physical tableau. Where does the modern city dweller flee to in a crisis? Mother Nature as a place of retreat, not adapting any longer as a survival strategy in the event of a threat: using their bodies as artistically valuable material, Malika Khatir and Fiamma Camesi push their limits - and question those in the minds of the audience.

Malika Khatir is an actress and musician who has lived in Zurich since 2000.

From 1990 to 2000 she was part of the theatre group ‘le théâtre du Point Aveugle’ in Marseille under the direction of François Michel Pesanti. At the same time she sang with Maggie Nichols, who founded the vocal group ‘les méchantes’, who performed at various festivals in France, Germany, Switzerland and England. From 2000 to 2010, she performed under various directors, including: Barbara Weber in ‘les sirènes’, Niklaus Helbling in ‘Die Schwarz Kammer, Volker Hesse in “Making off”, Dennis Schwambeland in ’So ist guet. guet'.

She has performed at the Schauspielhaus Köln, Hamburg, Bremen, Berlin, at the Theater  Zurich, Basel, Bern, Lucerne, and at the national theatres of Taiwan and Hong Kong, among others. She has also appeared in various films directed by Christian Philibert and Sophie Comté. Since 2003 she has worked with the musician Kamilia Jubran; together they performed in Paris, Jordan, Syria and Switzerland. In 2009 Malika Kathir and Fiamma Camesi founded the Cie. ‘Südenbock Performances’.

Fiamma Camesi (*1975 in Narbonne), who graduated from the Dimitri School, lives and works as a freelance actress and performer both in Lausanne and Zürich, where she is involved in theatre projects and works in front of the camera. Her last Films included ‘Eden für Jeden’ by Rolf Lyssy and ‘Aus dem Schatten' by Marcel Gisler. In the theatre, she is currently working with Marion Duval, Chris Cadillac (Le spectacle de Merde) and Aurlélien Patouillard (FARWEST). In 2009, Fiamma Camesi and Malika Khatir founded the Cie. ‘Südenbock Performances’. In 2017, she created ‘Do you know Schubiduwuah?!’, which was shown at Theaterspektakel Zurich, the ‘Programme commun’ in Lausanne and the AUAWIRLEBEN festival in Bern, among others.

Eva Pandora, founded in 2019 in Basel by musician and songwriter Eva Stuker, explores a stylistic blend of psychedelic and alternative rock — often describing her music as "heartcore."
Her melancholic and ethereal voice is accompanied by edgy yet warm guitar riffs and dreamy synth melodies, creating a unique and immersive atmosphere.
Following the release of new, self-produced songs, she is now back on stage — sometimes with others, but for this evening, performing solo.

10.30pm – Ganna ft. Julian Sartorius

Ganna Gryniva emigrated from Ukraine to Germany with her parents in 2002. Today she is regarded as ‘one of the most impressive singers and musicians on the European jazz and world music scene’ (Ö1 Radio, AT). Since 2014, she has been working with the folklore of her homeland and combining it with jazz, experimental and electronic music in various line-ups. In 2023 Berthold records released her debut album as solo performer GANNA with loops, samples and the guitaret. On Kupala, GANNA combines the authenticity and tradition of Ukrainian singing with modern composition and electronic music. It all begins with a simple melody that is brought to life by the artist. For the production of the album Kupala, the singer received support from London-based producer Tomáš Kašpar, Vienna-based Ukrainian author Tanja Maljartschuk and Swiss drummer, percussionist and artist Julian Sartorius.

Julian Sartorius' precise and multi-layered rhythmic patterns are sharp excursions into the hidden sounds of found objects and prepared instruments, bridging the gap between organic timbres and the vocabulary of (experimental) electronic music. His training at renowned jazz schools has shaped his independent style, which is reflected in projects such as the Beat Diary-Box and the Morphblog series. The latest album Hidden Tracks: Basel - Genève was created while travelling, recording sounds and textures from the surrounding area. His live performances have taken him to stages in North and South America, Asia and Europe, where he has performed with Marc Ribot and Arto Lindsay, among others. Sartorius has released numerous solo albums, creates audio-visual works of art and has collaborated with numerous musicians in recent years, including Sophie Hunger, Sylvie Courvoisier and Dan Carey. His distinctive drumming can be heard on the latest albums by Kate Tempest, Matthew Herbert and James Zoo

Zurich rapper Big Zis has been shaking up the male-dominated Swiss rap game since the late 1990s with her clever lyrics, funny punchlines and provocative attitude. She has recorded several albums, made an award-winning music video, performed on pretty much every Swiss stage from antifademo to major cultural institutions, won Swiss Music Awards in 2010 and was awarded the Zurich Art Prize in 2021. Musically, she combines hip-hop with jazz, punk and improvisation into an eloquent and at the same time danceable rebellion against long outdated social norms and the patriarchal order, delivering an ingeniously crisp, clever, humorous and provocative piece of art not to miss out on.

Dadagloal, born David Daniel, lives and works in Zurich. His curiosity drove him into electro-acoustic music. He has been composing and producing electronic music, mostly experimental, for more than twenty years. He performs as a pianist, electro live act and DJ.
From 1998 to 2002 he studied piano at the Zurich Conservatory (with Hadassa Schwimmer) and violoncello in Winterthur (with Susanne Basler). This was followed by composition studies with Rolf Urs Ringger in Zurich. Several tours followed in China, Japan, Thailand and South America. He has performed at Art Basel, Art Basel Hong Kong, Centre Corbusier Paris, the Swiss Embassy in London, Bar25 in Berlin and throughout Europe. He was a programmer at Klub Persil, Labitzke and Zukunft in Zurich and in 2012 he was Art Director of Sound Development City in London, Berlin and Zurich.
David Daniel hosts a monthly radio show on GDS.FM and produces the successful audio podcast Tisch Frei. He also composes film music (Shoes) and other works for radio and television and is a regular musician at the IOIC (Institute for Incoherent Cinematography).

As a DJ and driving force behind many projects in Zurich, Nive has repeatedly showcased her distinct sense of contemporary club and music culture. Drawing on her Tamil background and former training in Carnatic music, Nive weaves a unique soundscape in her sets, moving effortlessly between different influences and tempi. Her sets are a vibrant, rhythmic exploration of a multitude of genres, each track carefully selected with a storytelling approach that aims to captivate the audience from start to finish.
Currently she is active at the Zurich-based record label Subject to Restrictions Discs and has co-founded Sooriyan, a platform celebrating South Asian creativity within the electronic music industry in Switzerland.

Fränzi Madörin
Fränzi Madörin (* l963 in Basel) lives and works in Basel as an artist and is a member of VIA AudioVideoKunst in Basel. She works in the fields of music, performance, audio, installation, composition & costume, moderation and project management. She originally trained as a dressmaker BFS in Basel.

Madörin is part and co-founder of the music performance group Les Reines Prochaines, founded in 1987 as Reines des Couteaux, from 88 Les Reines Prochaines, and was manager of the group until 1999. In addition to concert programmes, they have repeatedly realised large projects, also with an extended line-up, both in the theatre and in alternative venues. Les Reines Prochaines have performed in Switzerland, Germany, Austria, France, Spain, Italy, Poland, Georgia, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Slovenia, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Belgium, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and Canada.
