OMG, Franck! Festival

Sechs Tage, fünf Disziplinen, eine gemeinsame Vision.

In einer Zeit globaler Herausforderungen versteht sich OMG, Franck! als Plattform für Sub- und Clubkultur sowie für gesellschaftliche Reflexion. Das Festival steht für Kreativität, Vielfalt und Nachhaltigkeit – und zeigt, wie kulturelles Schaffen neue Perspektiven eröffnen kann. Wo sich unterschiedliche Szenen und Communities begegnen, entsteht ein konstruktives Miteinander.

Nachdem das Festival im Rahmen der Basler Art Woche 2025 gegründet wurde, ging es vom 15. bis 20. Juni 2026 bereits in die zweite Runde: „OMG, Franck! Let’s create our world in six days“ lud DJs, Künstler:innen, Designer:innen, Performer:innen und Köch:innen ein, gemeinsam mit dem Publikum eine Welt zu gestalten, wie wir sie uns wünschen – offen, vielfältig, nachhaltig und kreativ. 7'500 Besuchende kamen 2026 in Genuss dieses einzigartigen Festivals. 

OMG, Franck! ist eine kollaboratives Format, welches durch den neu gegründeten Förderverein Franck, Radio X (Musik/Clubkultur), Tanzhaus Basel (Tanz/Performance), No Chef Studios (Food Culture) und AUDA (Fashion) organisiert wird.

TIMEZONES: Nairobi

Als Weiterführung der im 2022 gestarteten Sendereihe airtime! strahlen wir einmal im Monat eine Folge TIMEZONES aus. Der Podcast, der künstlerischen Stimmen aus dem Globalen Süden und Osten Gehör verschafft, ist ein Projekt der Plattform für Musikrecherche Norient und dem Goethe-Institut. Mit TIMEZONES reisen wir heute nach Nairobi in eine spannende junge Musikszene

Die nächste Generation von Musikproduzenten und Künstlern in Nairobi meldet sich zu Wort:

In den letzten Jahren haben immer mehr kleine Studios in Nairobi begonnen, Musik vor Ort zu produzieren. Einige davon erreichen Millionen von Zuhörer:innen in Kenia oder sorgen für grosses Aufsehen in internationalen Nischenmusikszenen. Ihre Produzent:innen und Musiker:innen stellen alte Hierarchien auf den Kopf,
und fordern oft soziale und politische Reformen. Aber sie stossen auch auf viel Widerstand.

TIMEZONES ist ein gemeinsames Projekt des Goethe-Instituts und Norient, dem weltweiten Redaktionsnetzwerk für zeitgenössische Musik- und Medienkulturen. Radio X ist neu als Partner mit an Bord.

Nairobi's next generation music Producers and performing artists speak out:

In recent years, small-scale studios in Nairobi have begun producing music locally, and some of their output reaches millions of listeners in Kenya, or create buzz and noise in international niche music scenes. Their producers and musicians are turning old hierarchies upside down, often calling for social and political reforms. But they’re also facing a lot of resistance.

Biographie Thomas Burkhalter:

Thomas Burkhalter is an ethnomusicologist, interdisciplinary artist and music journalist from Bern (Switzerland). He is the founder and director of Norient – Performing Music Research (norient.com), the Norient Film Festival (NFF) and the Norient Space «The Now In Sound» (2020). He co-directed the documentary films «Contradict» (2020 - winner Berner Musikpreis) and «Ghana Controversial» (Al-Jazeera Witness, 2019), the AV/theatre/dance performance «Clash of Gods» (2018), is the author of «Local Music Scenes and Globalization: Transnational Platforms in Beirut» (Routledge), and he co-edited the books «The Arab Avant Garde: Musical Innovation in the Middle East» (Wesleyan University Press), «Seismographic Sounds – Visions of a New World» (Norient Books), and «Out of the Absurdity of Life – Global Music» (Norient/Traversion). His experimental radio feature, «Gqom Edits – A Durban Visit», was nominated for Prix Europa in 2017.
