TIMEZONES PODCAST-SERIE AUF RADIO X
Die Podcast-Reihe TIMEZONES erkundet die vielfältigen Realitäten von Künstler*innen und ihrer Praktiken weltweit und stellt die Frage: Was bedeutet es heute, in verschiedenen Ländern, Städten und Kontexten im Bereich Kultur und Kunst zu leben und zu arbeiten? Die Reise geht von Nairobi über Rio de Janeiro bis nach Beirut und Mount Makiling auf den Philippinen / die Ukraine und verarbeitet die Gedanken und Stimmungen der Künstler*innen, ihre sozialen, politischen und intellektuellen Realitäten und ihre(Lebens-) Philosophien zu künstlerischen Audiocollagen.
TIMEZONES spielt dabei mit Formaten und Inhalten: der Podcast bewegt sich zwischen Journalismus und Experiment, Dokumentation, Ethnografie, Fiktion, Klangkunst oder Improvisation. Georgrafische Grenzen, Zeitzonen, Genres und Praktiken sollen überschritten und mit neuen künstlerischen Formen des Austauschs, des Zuhörens und des Erzählens experimentiert werden. Gemeinsam mit lokalen Produzent*innen und Künstler*innen entstehen dabei sehr persönliche Portraits und aktuelle Geschichten aus Städten rund um den Globus, die einen sehr subjektiven Eindruck in das weltweite und aktuelle Musik-und Kunstgeschehen ermöglichen.
TIMEZONES ist ein gemeinsames Projekt des Goethe-Instituts und Norient, dem weltweiten Redaktionsnetzwerk für zeitgenössische Musik- und Medienkulturen.
Radio X ist neu als Partner mit an Bord: Als Weiterführung der im 2022 gestarteten Sendereihe airtime!, die künstlerischen Stimmen aus dem Globalen Süden und Osten Gehör verschafft, strahlen wir einmal im Monat eine Podcast-Folge aus.

The TIMEZONES podcast series plunges into the world of artists and their practices, asking: what does living and working in culture and the arts involve in different countries, cities, and contexts today? The experimental journey goes from Nairobi via Rio de Janeiro to Beirut and Mount Makiling in the Philippines/Ukraine and brings the he artists’ thoughts on their moods, their social, political, and intellectual realities and their philosophies (of life) into experimental audio collages.
The TIMEZONES podcasts run the gamut of formats and content, from straight journalism to experimental and documentary approaches, ethnography and fiction, sound art, and improvisation. The series endeavors to create new artistic forms of storytelling, listening and exchange across the boundaries of geography, time zones, genres, and practices. Together with local producers and artists, the podcast creates very personal portraits and current stories from cities around the globe, which allow a very subjective impression of the worldwide and current music and art scenes.
The Timezones Podcast Series is co-initiated and co-produced by the Goethe-Instituts and Norient, the worldwide platform and network for contemporary music and media cultures.
Radio X is now on board as a partner: As a continuation of the series airtime!, which was launched in 2022 and which makes artistic voices from the Global South and East heard, we broadcast a podcast episode once a month.

Die achte Sendung der Reihe Airtime! Porträtiert eine junge Sound Artistin aus Ägypten, genauer gesagt aus Kairo. Shadwa Ali ist eine Solokünstlerin, die ihre Musik vor allem zu Hause am Computer produziert. Sie arbeitet aber auch mit Samples, die sie im Chaos der Millionenmetropole Kairo aufnimmt, und danach in ihrer Musik verarbeitet. von Danielle Bürgin

Das Werk von Shadwa Ali untersucht die psychologischen Auswirkungen der Gesellschaft auf den Menschen auf ihr Verhalten in der chaotischen Routine der änyptischem Grossstädte und wie Momente das kollektive Gedächtnis prägen.
Ihre Arbeit versucht unentdeckte Details der unmittelbaren Umgebung aufzudecken, sie will sich ein Graben in die akustische Welt die sie umgibt, und darüber nachdenken wie Nonsens und Absurditäten die Realität gestalten.

Bio:
Shadwa Ali an Egyptian independent Audio & Visual artist born & lived in Alexandria. Graduated from faculty of fine arts, Alexandria University, Graphic department (Printmaking), 2012. Her work is multidisciplinary, it's open to different mediums including printmaking (linocut & digital print), installation, interactive installation, video, sound and music.
Shadwa’s artistic practice is based on searching and exploring society problems and human psychological issues, their behavior through the daily chaotic routine in capital cities (Cairo-Alexandria), and how when certain events occur, it affects the social and collective memory and their way of interacting with this society. Her work is noticing the mostly unnoticed details in the surrounding environment, investigating, digging, then manipulating that reality which reflects the nonsense and absurdity in that reality.
She exhibited her work in local art spaces such as: Bibliotheca Alexandria, french institute, Goethe, Shelter and Atelier Alexandria (alexandria) - Townhouse - art d’egypt - Medrar -Cairo opera house).
Also participated in International shows / events such as: Medisoup in Cyprus, Spain and Turkey, April, 2022 - All systems go at Centrala art gallery, Birmingham, Uk, June, 2021. airtime! Klänge aus der ganzen Welt
Mit einem Open Call (Januar/Februar 2022) wurden die Musiker:innen aus Afrika, Asien, Lateinamerika, dem Nahen und Osten und Osteuropa (Non-EU-Countries) dazu aufgerufen, sich mit speziell für dieses Projekt produzierte Hörstücke, Musiksessions, DJ-Sets oder Podcasts für eine Teilnahme zu bewerben. Mindestens zehn Hörstücke/Sessions/DJ-Sets oder Podcasts werden auf den Schweizer UNIKOM-Radios Radio X, Radio RaBe, Radio 3fach, Kanal K, Radio Gwendalyn ausgestrahlt. Zu den musikalischen Beiträgen kommen Interviews mit den Musikschaffenden hinzu, welche den vertiefteren Einblick in ihre Arbeit und in ihren Alltag ermöglichen.
airtime! wurde initiert von artlink und dem Südkulturfonds und wird freundlich unterstützt durch die Stiftung Radio und Kultur Schweiz, sowie durch Swissperform.

airtime! Sounds from all over the world
For over two years, the ongoing pandemic has made it extremely difficult for musicians from the global South and East to perform and tour in Switzerland. The radio programme called airtime!, starting in February 2022, invites selected musicians from Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Latin America to present their work and music on five independent Swiss radio stations (UNIKOM radios). The collaborative project, uniting Radio X, Radio RaBe, Radio 3fach, Radio Gwen and Radio Kanal K, was initiated by artlink and Südkulturfonds with the much-appreciated support of SRKS (Stiftung Radio und Kultur Schweiz) and Swissperform.
