TIMEZONES PODCAST-SERIE AUF RADIO X
Die Podcast-Reihe TIMEZONES erkundet die vielfältigen Realitäten von Künstler*innen und ihrer Praktiken weltweit und stellt die Frage: Was bedeutet es heute, in verschiedenen Ländern, Städten und Kontexten im Bereich Kultur und Kunst zu leben und zu arbeiten? Die Reise geht von Nairobi über Rio de Janeiro bis nach Beirut und Mount Makiling auf den Philippinen / die Ukraine und verarbeitet die Gedanken und Stimmungen der Künstler*innen, ihre sozialen, politischen und intellektuellen Realitäten und ihre(Lebens-) Philosophien zu künstlerischen Audiocollagen.
TIMEZONES spielt dabei mit Formaten und Inhalten: der Podcast bewegt sich zwischen Journalismus und Experiment, Dokumentation, Ethnografie, Fiktion, Klangkunst oder Improvisation. Georgrafische Grenzen, Zeitzonen, Genres und Praktiken sollen überschritten und mit neuen künstlerischen Formen des Austauschs, des Zuhörens und des Erzählens experimentiert werden. Gemeinsam mit lokalen Produzent*innen und Künstler*innen entstehen dabei sehr persönliche Portraits und aktuelle Geschichten aus Städten rund um den Globus, die einen sehr subjektiven Eindruck in das weltweite und aktuelle Musik-und Kunstgeschehen ermöglichen.
TIMEZONES ist ein gemeinsames Projekt des Goethe-Instituts und Norient, dem weltweiten Redaktionsnetzwerk für zeitgenössische Musik- und Medienkulturen.
Radio X ist neu als Partner mit an Bord: Als Weiterführung der im 2022 gestarteten Sendereihe airtime!, die künstlerischen Stimmen aus dem Globalen Süden und Osten Gehör verschafft, strahlen wir einmal im Monat eine Podcast-Folge aus.

The TIMEZONES podcast series plunges into the world of artists and their practices, asking: what does living and working in culture and the arts involve in different countries, cities, and contexts today? The experimental journey goes from Nairobi via Rio de Janeiro to Beirut and Mount Makiling in the Philippines/Ukraine and brings the he artists’ thoughts on their moods, their social, political, and intellectual realities and their philosophies (of life) into experimental audio collages.
The TIMEZONES podcasts run the gamut of formats and content, from straight journalism to experimental and documentary approaches, ethnography and fiction, sound art, and improvisation. The series endeavors to create new artistic forms of storytelling, listening and exchange across the boundaries of geography, time zones, genres, and practices. Together with local producers and artists, the podcast creates very personal portraits and current stories from cities around the globe, which allow a very subjective impression of the worldwide and current music and art scenes.
The Timezones Podcast Series is co-initiated and co-produced by the Goethe-Instituts and Norient, the worldwide platform and network for contemporary music and media cultures.
Radio X is now on board as a partner: As a continuation of the series airtime!, which was launched in 2022 and which makes artistic voices from the Global South and East heard, we broadcast a podcast episode once a month.

When Creativity Meets Chaos: Insights into the Uncompressed Music Scene in Kampala
This episode further discusses the importance of the Nyege Nyege label and festival that has gained massive international attention lately.
Many thriving DJs and producers have come out of Kampala’s underground music scene in the past few years. In this podcast episode, we invite our fellow music producers and DJs to share their processes of music production and explain how the city inspires their creativity.
Kampala is a beautiful city surrounded by Lake Victoria and its nature that brings a certain level of peace amidst chaos. We recorded the podcast in the city, relating to the sounds in our surroundings, and how each of the artists connect to different aspects of the city, such as noise, the people, and its environment.
Uganda is a socially conservative, majority Christian and Muslim country. To see the momentum of artists expressing themselves in a free create form is very impressive. We look into the growth of Kampala in the past decade. There’s a lot more light on the music scene now than before. The momentum comes from the multiple cultures that bring along unique sounds that evolve in this creativity space, and there’s a lot of room to be inspired and learn.
Over the years, Kampala has become a global incubator of sounds. We see artists from the diaspora and East African community gaining interest in exploring the city and doing residencies at Nyege Nyege studios (Villa) which has harbored collaborations among artists.
It’s such a beautiful opportunity to bring you into our evolving music scene in East Africa. We hope you enjoy it.

Die Welt durch Sounds, Film und Video verstehen: Das 13. Norient Festival in Bern stellt bis 14. Januar
2024 dringende Fragen zu den globalen Herausforderungen unserer Zeit. Das Programm wurde unter der künstlerischen Leitung der multidisziplinären Künstlerin Emma Nzioka aka Coco Em aus Nairobi erarbeitet.
NORIENT BOOKS: Über Macht und Ohnmacht in Kurationspraktiken
"Politics of Curatorship" von Norient Books, ist eine anregende Essaysammlung: Es ist ein Buch über Formen des Kuratierens in verschiedenen Bereichen, welches darüber nachdenkt, was Kuration bedeutet, die Stolpersteine davon und versucht, neue Formen darzulegen.
Ein schwarzes Diagramm zur Reorientierung der Welt
Das neue Werk an der Rückwand der Kunsthalle Basel wirkt ziemlich mathematisch. Doch anstatt Sachbestände festzunageln, lässt Künstler Nolan Oswald Dennis viele (schwarze) Räume offen. Lässt Gegensätze nebeneinander stehen und schlägt ein Modell vor, welches die Welten zusammenbringt, in "a recurse 4 [3] worlds".
X_ARTS Festival: Audiovisuelle Performance von Luis Sanz am FR, 20.10. um 21H
Am X_ARTS Festival live zu erleben: Luis Sanz ist ein multidisziplinärer Künstler, der mit synthetischen Klängen, Computergrafiken und mit audiovisuellen Medien arbeitet. Als Künstler entwickelt Sanz Installationen, die sich auf die Beziehungen zwischen Körpern und Räumen konzentrieren und akustisch-imaginäre Dimensionen schaffen. Er kombiniert Video mit räumlichem Klang, Licht und field recordings.
X_ARTS Festival & Norient: Conversation: Politics of Curatorship - wie kuratieren wir divers und fair?
Paneldiskussion am Samstag, 21. Oktober um 13:30 Uhr in Zusammenarbeit mit Norient Sounds: Auf Konzertbühnen, in DJ Booths, in Kunstaussstellungen oder in den Medien nehmen Kurationspraktiken Einfluss darauf, wen und was wir hören, sehen– und fühlen. Wir diskutieren über die Frage: Wie kann gerecht und diverser kuratiert werden? Zudem gibt es eine Podcast-Listeningstation!
