Das Zürcher Jazz-gone-roque Quintett District Five veröffentlichen diese Woche ihr neues Album Pause. Im Gegensatz zu ihrerm Vorgängeralbum Burnt Sugar für welches viel Zeit im Studio aufgewendet wurde, handelt es sich hier um sieben One-Take-Tracks. Sie bezeichnen es als ein DIY-Album und sagen: «Let’s say, we’re just vibing here, with no pressure at all». Zusammengekommen ist ein ziemlich facettenreiches Album, welches Freund:innen von Hip Hop Beats genauso zusprechen kann wie spoken word afficionados oder klassischen Sax-addicts. Besonders sonnig: der Track Skiron Sunshade.

Die Nord Londonerin Delilah Holliday steht vor dem Release ihrer Debüt EP Invaluable Vol. 1 (veröffentlicht am 7. Juli), unter anderem mit dem Song Silent Streets. Inspiriert sei sie zu Pandemiezeiten von den leeren Strassen Londons gewesen. "Raphael [Ninot] sent me the beat and it had a nice industrial feel to it and reminded me of the streets of London, and I just wanted like a groove over the top of that, with that particular concept of being too scared to mingle, but it's a clubby track. And I like the juxtaposition. This whole project really is about juxtaposition and mixing things together that don't really go because that's how started. It’s the spark that inspired all the other songs. Genre blending and putting pieces together that don't quite fit”. 

Das Genfer Label Bongo Joe veröffentlicht am 6. Oktober das zweite Album der Kollaborator:innen Chouk Bwa & The Ångströmers, mit der Titelsingle Somanti. Wo Chouk Bwa aus Gonaïves kommt ("the heartland of Haitian Vodou and the birthplace of the country’s independence") sind The Ångströmers eine in Brüssel lebende Band, mit Vorlieben für "musique concrète, dub & hardcore". Die Lead Single verschmilzt Genres und wirkt gar hypnotisierend. Das Label schreibt; "It is always both deeply traditional and deeply contemporary, a union of America, Africa and Europe. In every direction, it is dance, trance music – equally at home at a rave or in a temple."
